TEO vs C-Gates??

Postby Gene on Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:07 pm

It seems that the only two Cable TV providers in Lithuania are TEO and C-Gates. TEO currently provides our fixed line phone, internet and cable. As I have posted here, I have not been too delighted with TEO. Service has been so-so. One thing that really got me is when they sent us a modem and said it would be very easy to connect. It was not. We called them and it seems they sent us the wrong modem and they did not want to do anything about it. I wrote a very angry letter and finally got them to fix it. But I am not a big fan of TEO. However, my wife wants to stay with them because she is worried that if we change providers it could be worse.

Since we are moving soon and our TEO contract ends in April, I would like to look into alternatives. Does anyone know anything about C-Gates? Are they reliable?

Still waiting for feedback on this. Does anyone have exprience with another internet provider other than TEO? I REALLY don't like TEO. Internet often slows way down. Is there another internet service provider which serves the Old Town that is more reliable than TEO?

There is at least 1 more (but I suspect even more) cable TV providers in Vilnius - VDNET ( http://www.vdnet.lt/ ). I used their services long time ago, when they were called VILSAT. It was OK, but I don't know if it's any good now.

I have C-Gates cable TV + Internet. The internet was working really bad two or three years ago, but when I complained, they fixed it and I haven't had any problems since then, unlike most people, who use TEO. It costs 60 Lt (20 for the TV and 40 for the internet). I would recommend it over TEO.

Hi Gytaz

Mind if I ask you a few questions:

Do you know how fast your intenet is? Somtimes our internet is pretty good, other times it just crawls.
Do you have wireless or cable internet? We have two computers, one of both.

Thanks for your advice, makes me feel more confident about making the switch.

Sorry for responding only now.

I don't remember what my internet speed should be officially, but I took a test at http://www.speedtest.net/ and it says that my download speed is 3.87 mb/s and my upload speed is 1.11 mb/s, you can compare it with yours. I have cable internet.

I just did it and got download is 4.22 and upload is 0.53

So, it looks like my download is a little faster and your upload is twice as fast.

This past month our internet has been OK. But sometimes it hardly works at all. This is what I dont like about TEO. The inconsistancy.
